Movement That Brings the Story to Life
Anatoliy Sachivko – choreographer, director, and founder of Apache Crew. His language is movement — as powerful as words. He creates physical imagery born from improvisation, urban dance styles, and a deep sense of dramatic performance.
For the upcoming premiere based on the poetry of Amanda Gorman, he explores the body as an instrument that enhances the impact of spoken text. “Movement in this performance is not the main character, but it helps the audience perceive what they hear and see,” says Anatoliy. His approach is all about attentiveness to the process, slowly listening to the material, and discovering a physicality that naturally integrates into the performance.
“It’s an everyday, natural, and sometimes metaphorical form of bodies united in shared action,” much like water—an element particularly meaningful to him. Due to the war, he can no longer walk along the water as he once did, but working on this premiere has been a return to his dreams: “I once dreamed of paddling down the Dnipro into the Black Sea… In working on this performance, I am reconnecting with those dreams.”
