The Price of Light, based on poetry selected from Amanda Gorman’s book Call Us What We Carry began an exploration of the thematic and artistic commonalities between two different cultures — Ukrainian and Afro-American. Gorman’s highly structured poetry, which was written during the lockdown of Covid-19 as a seabound journey, travels through the ebbs and flows of historical waves. It casts light on the triumphs and tragedies that have made us what and who we are, while also prescribing paths towards what we may be. The Kurbas Theatre’s voyage within her poems is an odyssey through her style, art and resonate themes.
