About

Since its founding in 1988 the Lviv Les Kurbas Theatre has consistently been one of Ukraine’s most critically acclaimed theatres. Characterized by its ongoing explorations for new theatrical territory, it claims a culturally diverse repertoire (Skovoroda, Schmitt, Ukrainka, Chekhov, Stus, Plato, Mishima, KLIM, Williams, Antonych, MacDonagh, Beckett…to name a few) while still retaining the ground of its Ukrainian roots. Its work has been performed internationally, and awarded laurels at numerous festivals. It has collaborated in joint projects and workshops at the Gardzience Centre of Theatre Studies (Poland), The Workcentre of Jerzy Grotowski (Italy), Anatolii Vasiliev’s Studio at the School of Dramatic Art (Russia). It is the recipient of Ukraine’s greatest cultural reward – National Shevchenko’s Prize, and in 2007 it was granted the cultural status as an Academic Theatre.
